Ethan’s Approach

Ethan believes in treating everyone he works with as an individual who has unique needs, requiring a personalized, client-centered treatment approach. He curates treatment plans based on each person or group, drawing on over a decade of training and expertise. His approach is strength-based and neurodiversity affirming. Sessions may include skill-building, music analysis, playing pre-composed music, collaborative songwriting, and improvisation.

Ethan is committed to offering a sliding scale for the cost of services. He believes that financial constraints should not dictate one’s choice to pursue music education or mental health care. Please contact him directly if listed rates are prohibitive.

Music Therapy

Music is a powerful and instinctive medium for communication, identity expression and development, and emotional resonance which creates potent opportunities for personal growth. As a music therapist, Ethan Meyer, MA, MT-BC, NRMT is trained to facilitate safe and effective clinical processing of client’s experiences in music to best support their development. Having trained in healthcare, non-profit, and educational settings with individuals across the lifespan, Ethan specializes in working with individuals with development disabilities, as well as neurotypical children and adolescents.

The American Music Therapy Association defines music therapy as “The clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.” In music therapy we will focus on the same types of clinical goals one might have for a talk therapy session, but music will be a primary medium for processing. Music therapy sessions may include interactive music making and elements of skill building, as well as receptive musical experiences- and talking too! To be a good candidate for music therapy one doesn’t need to be a musician: clients range from individuals who have never tried an instruments to professional performers, and everyone in between.
